Castlemans Stables East & West
Nestled in the heart of East Sussex and within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Castlemans Stables have been beautifully converted into two self-contained cottages.
The overhanging roofs, hayracks and stalls together with the intimate courtyard capture the atmosphere of country stables to perfection.
From their own private decks, the stables have glorious southerly views across the open countryside and are the perfect spot for al-fresco dining or a BBQ. Each has a large double bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a twin bedroom and adjacent bathroom. The kitchen and dining room opens into a large living-room with TV and wood-burner, which is a cosy attraction during the winter months!
A leisurely 10-minute walk from the stables, Sedlescombe is a quintessentially Sussex village with its pretty green and free-roaming geese. The post office is well stocked with essentials and the 15th century Queens Head pub serves delicious food and welcomes dogs too!
A short distance away the coastal towns of Hastings, Rye and Eastbourne are perfect for days on the beach; Bodiam Castle is one of the best loved and best known castles in England and is just 5 miles away, and for the garden enthusiasts we are lucky enough to be less than half an hour from the beautiful gardens of Great Dixter, Pashley Manor and Sissinghurst Castle.
The Stables can be booked together, and with Jessie our shepherds hut, for larger gatherings of friends or families, and dogs are very welcome too!
Jessie the Shepherds Hut
Tucked away down a long meandering path between crab apple and flowering cherry trees, Jessie is the most perfect place to stay if you are looking for some peace and quiet. She overlooks a beautiful stretch of Sussex countryside with sheep, cows and plenty of visiting wildlife!
Inside, the cleverly organised space contains a large comfortable bed which folds away making room for the solid oak table and seats – perfect for a romantic dinner. The bathroom has a shower, basin and WC.
No shepherds hut is complete without a wood-burner to keep you warm and toasty and we provide plenty of logs.
The kitchen is fully equipped so you can choose to eat in or go out for a meal; being near the sea, we have some fantastic seafood restaurants nearby.
Jessie can be booked with Castlemans Stables for larger gatherings of friends or families and dogs are very welcome too!
