Battle's bustling historic high street is a joy to wander, featuring many of the kinds of shops you don't often see elsewhere. Independent clothes shops, craft shops, wool shops and book shops, and tiny cafés and tea rooms spilling out onto the pavements.

Don't miss the delightful British Design British Made, championing the best of British design. With sustainable packaging, renewable electricity, a children's art corner and an amazing smell (sounds weird but trust us), it's a must-visit.

Battle Brewery and Bottle Shop is a don't-miss for beer lovers, selling beers from their own microbrewery as well as other locally produced ciders, wines and snacks.

A short drive north, but not to be missed, you'll find Eggs to Apples in Hurst Green – champions of local produce. They showcase the best of locally produced, seasonal food and drink, via its delicatessen, cheese counter, cellar and café.
