Passionate about BRITISH MADE, we curate from a broad portfolio of talented British designers manufacturing beautiful, useful, affordable, quality products in the British Isles. We seek out those created with sustainable or recycled materials, reuse or recycle the majority of our supplier packaging and use 100% renewable electricity, every drop made from British sun, wind and rain.
As you make your approach on Battle High Street, you might hear the tinkle of great British music…anything from traditional British jazz or classical, to more contemporary singer-songwriters. As you enter, the smell hits you (it’s described on TripAdvisor as ‘amazing’) and there is always something new and fresh to discover – a delight for all the senses! You may be lucky to find us on a tasting day or during an exhibition of local talent. There’s a children’s corner where younger visitors can sit and create an artistic masterpiece or play with a sample sustainable toy, and the store is pushchair and wheelchair friendly. Dogs are very welcome too and are very likely to be fussed over. (Of course, you will be too, but you may want to give their edible treats a miss!)
Our bricks and mortar store is where you will often find one-off unique pieces that never make it online, so do pop in and take a look for yourself. Once you’re home, you can always browse our ever-increasing offering online or call us on 01424 777711 for a regular WhatsApp video tour and personal shopping experience so you don't miss out.
WHAT MAKES US MORE SUSTAINABLE THAN MOST HIGH STREET SHOPS AND THEREFORE BETTER FOR OUR PLANET AND THE ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH WE LIVE:
• We only sell products made here in the British Isles where wages, working hours and working conditions are regulated (no child labour here).
• Our products haven't travelled thousands of miles to get here and all the fossil fuel emissions and pollution that entails. We all know how much aviation contributes to greenhouse gases, but did you know that in 2009, it was calculated that the then 15 largest ships could be emitting as much as 760 million cars into the atmosphere? Many of our components are made in the British Isles but where they are not (we simply don't manufacture certain things here), by buying British made, we are reducing the volume brought in by air and sea.
• Many of our products are made with sustainable or recycled materials, some are vintage or pre-loved.
• Our products are not tested on animals.
• We avoid materials that are endangering our climate or environment such as plastics, unsustainable clothing fabrics (as we delve more into this area, the less sustainable most fashion appears to be), palm oil and soya.
• We promote products that help our bees, birds and butterflies.
• We use 100% renewable electricity.
• We recycle or reuse at least 90% of our supplier packaging.
• Our owner has been driving a British made electric car for nearly 10 years, using 100% renewable energy at home for recharging and all her other energy needs.
