The global sailing race ‘Bart’s Bash’ will return to Bewl Water, for its 5th birthday bash. The event is open to all members of the Bewl Sailing Association and visitors of Bewl Water- everyone is encouraged to take part or come along and spectate.
Bart’s Bash has travelled its way around the world, involving 100’s of venues, 1000’s of sailors and 100’s of different classes of boats. Founded in 2014, the event is verified by Guinness World Records as ‘The Largest Sailing Race in the World’.
The event provides an opportunity for the sailing community to remember Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson, a double Olympic medallist who tragically passed away when training for the America’s Cup in 2013.
There are no fees to participate, however all donations for the Andrew Simpson Association will be greatly appreciated. Last year 22 vessels took to the water and a very generous donation was made.
Bart’s Bash will be opening its doors at 10.30am for the event briefing the race is scheduled to start at around 11.00am.
The Waterfront Café will be serving hot drinks, refreshments and light bites throughout the course of the day as well as The Boat House Bistro which will also be serving home cooked, hot meals to enjoy after the event, open 12pm-9pm.
The event is free to attend, with the usual £3 parking charge for cars.
