Clothes hold memories and shape identity. In this engaging talk, social historian Carol Dyhouse explores the themes of her new book Appearances: Memory, History, Clothes (2025), tracing women's changing attitudes to fashion from the 1950s to the 1980s.
Drawing on family stories and vintage style, she asks: did we follow trends—or create them?
