Bexhill Olympic Torch Relay

The Olympic Torch Relay will be coming through Bexhill on Tuesday 17th July on its way to Hastings. The torch will arrive at Little Common just after 5pm when it will move down to Birkdale, the seafront, Sea Road and onto Dorset Road. Organisers want residents and visitors to share in the excitement of the relay and celebrate the achievements of the torchbearers.

You are invited to join in with local celebrations on the 17th July in and around Bexhill and to watch this special event and to celebrate our local Torch Bearers as they carry the torch. Bexhill Sailing Club will be putting boats afloat during the evening and dressing the club with banners for the occasion, Bexhill Museum will be kept open until 7pm and showing its Bexhill Sports exhibition, The De La Warr Pavilion will be open and provide a vantage point to see the Torch Relay and the Cultural Olympiad project 'Hand on a minute lads, I've got a great idea ...' by Richard Wilson will be in place. A sports day for local school children is also being held on the Polegrove from 4pm to 7pm. Many shops and cafes will be opening late to celebrate the torch relay comig through including, Best Sellers, Mosaic Gallery, Sweet Pea and Dorris, Oasis Coffee Shop and No 48 Cafe Devonshire Road who will also be hosting an Olympics Quiz at 7.30pm.

8,000 inspirational people will carry the Olympic Flame as it journeys across the UK. Nominated by someone they know, it will be their moment to shine, inspiring millions of people watching in their commnity, in the UK and worldwide.

Confirmed Torchbearers running through Bexhill include the following individuals: Denny Nicol, Detlef Loffers, Joerg Ehmer, Luke Lancaster, Paul Everest, Rupert Mitchell, Charlie Da'vall Grice-cardew, Jeannette Yeoell, Joshua Noon, Mike Fisher, Peter Mansell and Tony Curd.
