From a Bailiff of Hastings in Henry VIII's time to Baronet Richmond of Hollington in the 1920s, through the generations of Carswells, the High Street bread riots, the old lady in red who sold sweets at Fairlight Mill, and more, this talk will provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the millers of Hastings, and through them, something of the histories of the mills themselves. Many of the stories have never been told before, and the talk will appeal to family historians as well as lovers of local history.
The presenter, Bob Wilcock, is directly descended from the Hastings' Bailiff and the Carswell family, and the stories come from his research into Hastings' mills and millers, for a forthcoming book.
