Organised by Wadhurst Runners, the Bewl 15 & 5 mile races return on 5th July 2026.
The 15 mile race is the original round Bewl Water race and the only one which includes the nature reserve with its stunning lakeside views. Once voted the sixth best race in the country by readers of Runner's World, it follows the footpaths and quiet country lanes of the round Bewl Water trail. A beautiful and challenging course appeals to both endurance runners and those wanting to step up from racing shorter distances. Runners from clubs around Sussex compete in it as part of the Sussex Grand Prix series of races.
The 5 mile race is a trail which follows the first part of the round Bewl route and is entirely off road, offering an equally enjoyable experience for runners of all abilities.
These races are special as they are organised by runners for runners - our enthusiastic marshals will support and encourage you the whole way round, and when you finish, celebrate your achievement and enjoy the atmosphere with a free beer and cake whilst the local brass band play in the background.
Route Information
The 15 mile route begins in Wadhurst, East Sussex and descends to join the round Bewl route with gently undulating sections along the shore with a shorter, hilly section along quiet lanes.
Please note: there is a 4 hour time limit for the 15 mile route.
The 5 miler is a trail race which follows the 15 mile race for 2.5 miles before returning along the same route.
Running for a Cause
The races support the Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSSAA). KSSAA are a skilled team, responding to over 3100 incidents annually across Kent, Surrey and Sussex and, can reach any location within 30 minutes. They offer a fantastic service to our scattered rural communities as part of a wider role in the region. In 2025, the race raised a record-breaking £6200 for the charity and we hope to beat that in 2026!
