Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard

About

Head north from Sedlescombe village on the Hawkhurst Road to discover the oldest organic wine producer in England: Sedlescombe Organic vineyard. First established in 1979 by Roy Cook, a pioneer in environmentally friendly viticulture, this destination has grown into a 20-acre site comprising three distinct blocks of vines, a tasting room and café and a winery that produces 30,000 bottles per year.

East Sussex is home to several vineyards but few can match Sedlescombe’s vegan-friendly, gluten-free range: still red, still white, still rose, sparkling white and sparkling rose wine are all currently available. Previous vintages have won gold and silver medals from several different industry bodies such as Decanter, WineGB and the International Organic Wine Awards.

In 2010 Sedlescombe became England’s first biodynamic vineyard, in 2013 it won the first ever international award for an English red wine and in 2018 the business was purchased by a local couple who planted 42,000 new vines in their first three months.

Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard celebrates its 40th birthday in 2019 and will re-open, newly refurbished, to the public this summer offering vineyard tours, wine tasting sessions and a new menu of hot and cold meals from Tuesday to Sunday every week.
