The new building at Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard

About

Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in England, nestled in the Sussex countryside in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Originally founded in 1979, the vineyard has a fascinating history, one with its heart in working with the environment and caring for the land.

This ethos continues today, using biodynamic principles to nourish the land, caring for our vines, and bringing sustainability to everything we can. We also produce tasty wine too, we have an extensive award-winning range comprising of white, rose, red and sparkling wines, all certified organic or biodynamic by the Biodynamic Association UK and suitable for both Vegetarians and Vegans.

Since planting their first vines, the family-owned and operated Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard have prided themselves on producing international award-winning English organic and biodynamic wines across their 22-acre site. These have featured in such publications as the Times and BBC TV. Biodynamic agriculture follows organic principles, shuns chemical inputs and incorporates lunar and cosmic rhythms into the timing of the applications.

The vineyard offers its customers the opportunity to join one of its vineyard tours. This 90-minute guided tour takes visitors around the award-winning vineyard and explains the organic and biodynamic processes; includes wine tasting of minimum five wines. Combine the perfect stroll with a wine tasting at the oldest organic vineyard in the UK. Participants will enjoy a guided tour and an exclusive insight into what sets an organic and biodynamic vineyard apart. During the tour they will take part in a tasting session with a selection of red, white and rosé wines created in the vineyard with a knowledgeable wine taster.

The tour begins and ends in the stunning café-bar and tasting room, full of eco credentials and a beautiful space to spend a few hours. Hot and cold drinks, along with alcoholic beverages are available, as well as a tasty menu with food sourced locally and full of fresh produce to purchase on the day.

Here at Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard we are committed to being as sustainable as possible. We work with local suppliers to use organic produce and aim to source everything within 30 miles of the vineyard. Our cafe kitchen makes its own sausage rolls, cakes, and we use local organic cheese in our Ploughman's.

Our building, erected in 2018 is full of eco credentials, built using reclaimed materials, and heated with a state-of-the-art ground source heat pump. Our roof harvests grey water that is used in our toilet systems and watering our plants. We are phasing out the unnecessary use of paper offering text or email receipts, and use washable, reusable fabric hand towels and napkins.

We are open Wednesday - Sunday from 10:00AM to 17:00PM. Join us for free self-guided tours, wine flights, paired cheese and wine flights as well as hot and cold drinks, charcuterie, cheeseboards and delicious cake! We will be closed Monday and Tuesday from October to March. Our tours run every Friday and Saturday through the autumn and winter months.
