About

Starcroft Farm Cabins — Stargazing cabins full of stories

These three new eco builds near Battle are rooted in the timeless landscape of the High Weald AONB and inspired by the lesser-known stories of 1066 Country.

There's Matilda, a medieval and folklore-themed cabin named after William the Conqueror's powerful wife. And ‘Catherine’, a peaceful green space alive with the adventures of Victorian women explorers and gardeners including Marianne North. Finally there’s ‘Lucy’, which channels the spirit of the bohemian artists and writers who used Sussex as their muse in the 1920s, such as Virginia Woolf and Vita Sackville-West.

Great care has gone into choosing sustainable materials that sit in harmony with the surrounding meadow. In fact you can’t get much more locally sourced - the timber used for the cladding, deck rails and window sills came from Powdermill Wood, just a two minute stroll along the 1066 Country Walk. This focus on quality environmentally-friendly materials means they are comfortable in every season.

A whole host of talented local craftspeople have made the cabins totally unique places to stay: each one features arched doorways, as a nod to nearby Battle Abbey, as well as bespoke stained glass windows telling the story of each cabin in stained glass. Three local artists have also added their own contemporary take, creating a one-off artwork in each bedroom.

All the cabins are completely self-contained, and include hot showers and bathrooms, comfy double beds, cooking facilities, a mini fridge and an eating area. Inspiring extras such as the stargazing window above the bed, a birdwatching deck and a curated bookshelf will inspire you to head out on unexpected adventures, or perhaps write your own story at your desk with a view.

Starcroft Farm Cabins are perfect for couples and solo travellers. They make an ideal retreat for hikes, writers, nature lovers, and anyone who wants to recharge under the stars.

Keep an eye out for an exciting programme of walks, talks, workshops and other magical experiences to make your stay extra special.
