Judins Cottage is a dog friendly cottage on a small holding in Burwash Weald, where sheep graze the fields and footpaths lead from the door into the High Weald National Landscape.
The cottage is self catering, with two double bedrooms (bed settee on request), a wood burner, a private, fully enclosed garden, free Wi-Fi and an EV charging point. It has earned more than 237 five star reviews and a Top 1% ranking on Airbnb.
An easy walk from the door takes you down into the Dudwell valley to the mill pond at Bateman's, Rudyard Kipling's home for more than thirty years and now in the care of the National Trust. It is quiet here, dark at night and full of birdsong in the morning, yet Battle, Herstmonceux and the coast are all within easy reach.
This is fine country for anyone who likes gardens. Great Dixter, Pashley Manor, Sarah Raven's Perch Hill and Sissinghurst are all a short drive away, as are Bodiam and Scotney castles. Closer to home there are vineyards at Off the Line and Beacon Down, and the Lakedown brewery and taproom.
Dogs are genuinely welcome here rather than merely tolerated, and they stay free of charge.
The cottage suits couples, small families and walkers, and works just as well in every season, whether that is a long summer evening in the garden or an afternoon on the footpaths that ends with a hot drink or something stronger in front of the fire. We are Sarah and Mark, and we live on the same small holding, so there is always someone nearby if you need anything.
