About

Experience a Ukrainian Christmas tradition brought back to life in Bexhill.

Culbaba Theatre presents a reconstruction of the Sokyryntsi Vertep, a traditional Ukrainian Christmas puppet theatre documented in 1770.

Performed in a distinctive two-tier puppet theatre, the Vertep combines music, drama, puppetry and storytelling. Culbaba Theatre has worked from surviving historical and museum sources to reconstruct its music, text and performance tradition for a contemporary audience.

Discover one of Ukraine's oldest surviving theatrical traditions and experience a Christmas performance rarely seen in the UK.

Presented by Culbaba Theatre, a Ukrainian cultural heritage charity based in Bexhill-on-Sea.
