Robertsbridge 800 Time Capsule devised by Martin Brockman
It's an exhibition that's come out of a project that took place all of last year, a community project as part of the Robertsbridge 800 celebrations. Martin Brockman (who is based in the village) devised a wonderful idea to forage, make and fire, 800 clay tiles that we then took to various locations to work with people to decorate them, with some kind of design that represents their relationship to the village and surrounding landscape. We did workshops in Salehurst Primary School, in the village hall, at the Robertsbridge 800 event in June, Christmas Capers and also with a group of NHS staff as one of their team building days.
People of all ages have come together to create this pavement, which is designed to be a time capsule that will be eventually buried somewhere in the village, with an oak tree sapling planted in the middle - the idea being, that in another 800 years, the roots from this tree will push the tiles to the surface and the people of the future will discover it!
The exhibition will also include documentation and artefacts about Robertsbridge history, adding further context to the community artwork.
Our special opening event will take place from 2-4pm on Saturday 14th February, at blackShed Gallery.
