Featuring artists Polly Bennett, Margaret Devitt, Philippa Futrell and Lorraine Singer, 'Common Ground' is an exhibition about the ground, the earth, the soil that makes up the local landscape inhabited by all of the artists in this exhibition. Again and again, this environment proves to be fertile terrain as they reimagine the tradition of landscape painting or incorporate the soil directly into their composition in the form of pigment or clay, thus turning the material itself into the primary subject of their work. Whilst each artist and maker has their own unique style, focus and approach to making, this exhibition seeks to navigate the shared territories they explore.
