Vines at Charles Palmer Vineyard in East Sussex at Charles Palmer Vineyard in East Sussex

Charles Palmer Vineyards is a family run wine estate at Winchelsea in East Sussex. The estate’s vineyards benefit from an ideal climate for vines, with its close proximity to the sea, south facing slope, and its terroir in particular. The lowest part of the vineyard is a mere 5 metres above sea level and sits above a bed of Kimmeridgian clay similar to the Grand Crus of Burgundy.

Our vines were first planted in 2006 specifically with the aim of producing wines of the highest standard. Production is small and meticulous. Every effort is made to ensure only the best grapes are produced and selected according to the family’s exacting standards. The result is a small and exciting collection of vintage wines, each vintage is unique and characterful in its own way.

Our cellar door is usually open between Wednesday and Sunday, but we are currently offering appointment only to provide a safer experience. We have a range of still and sparkling wines that can be purchased on site.

In the drier months, we open our beautiful trail which runs through the vines and is approximately a 20-minute stroll.

As soon as we are able to re-open, tastings will be available. Prices start at £10pp, this will cover a tasting of 2 wines. We also offer Extended tastings, including the vineyard trail, a talk and wine tasting with one of the Palmer family members.

However, if you simply fancy a stroll on the 1066 Country Walk, you will be able to purchase by the glass and sit outside overlooking the Brede Valley. Accommodation at the beautifully restored Wickham Manor is available for those that would like to stay over.
