Perched above the ancient Cinque Port of Winchelsea in East Sussex, Charles Palmer Vineyards is a family-run 40-acre estate offering a truly authentic English wine experience. Just one mile from the sea, our vineyard’s south-facing slopes benefit from a unique coastal terroir that gives our wines their distinctive freshness and minerality.

Our story began in 1998, when we took over historic Wickham Manor and its surrounding land. Originally a traditional mixed farm with arable crops, sheep, cattle, and pigs, the estate evolved as we recognised the exceptional potential of the land for viticulture. In 2006, we planted our first Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines by hand, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter.

Today, eight vineyard plantations stretch across our single estate, where some vines grow just one metre above sea level, which contributes to the character and individuality of our wines. Alongside the vineyard, we have onsite accommodation and a flock of 70 breeding ewes, proudly preserving our agricultural heritage.

We are a close-knit team of six, including four family members and two dedicated local staff, offering visitors a warm, relaxed, and informative introduction to English winemaking. Guests can enjoy one of our 14 guided wine tastings each week, all of which include a tour of the winery. Walk-ins are also warmly welcomed for wine flights and wines served by the glass or bottle.

Visitors can make the most of their time with daily picnic hampers, pre-booked private chefs, and a scenic vineyard trail walk.

We are open to the public Wednesday to Saturday from 11am to 5pm, and Sundays from 12pm to 4pm.
