The George is temporarily closed due to a fire on 20th July 2019. Thankfully everyone was evacuated safely, and much of the beautiful historic building remains intact. However, the firefighting resulted in water damage to the restaurant, ballrooms and roof. Alex, Katie and the team are working hard to get The George back up and running and are determined to re-emerge even better than before.
Dating back to 1575, The George in Rye is a beautiful hotel in a picturesque town. Located in the High Street in medieval Rye, the Grade II listed hotel has become well-known as one of the most stunning hideaways on the south coast. The focus of the 34 bedrooms is on comfort and style - each one being individually designed with its own fabrics, colour scheme and bespoke furniture. Beds are luxury Vispring and the linen is Italian Frette. Le Froy Brooks bathrooms boast marble-top baths, chrome power showers and REN skincare products.
The George Grill, overlooking the high street, offers modern British food with European accents, served in friendly, relaxed surroundings. The menu features Rye Bay fish and seafood, Romney Marsh lamb, Donald Russell steak and local vegetables, cooked predominantly in the wood-charcoal grill. The extensive wine list boasts an excellent selection of wines from Kent and Sussex vineyards. The Tap Bar is the social hub of Rye and champions local ales and ciders and wines as well as a selection of soft drinks.
The George’s ‘Shop Next Door’ stocks homeware, linen and furniture found in the hotel, allowing guests to take a piece of hotel living home with them.
