Our popular concert series continues in new year with a concert from Neil Balfour baritone.
Song at Fairlight presents:
Neil Balfour baritone
Sholto Kynoch piano
Gates 10.30am
Concert Starts 11am
Indian-Scottish baritone Neil Balfour is a thrilling up-and-coming singer, who has already sung for Welsh National Opera, English Touring Opera and the London Symphony Orchestra. He gave a stunning performance of Sondheim songs alongside Kitty Whately at the 2021 Oxford Lieder Festival. With Sholto Kynoch, pianist and Artistic Director of Oxford Lieder, he performs Schumann's great cycle, his Liederkreis op.39. Full of mystery, myths, longing and nature, this is one of the pinnacles of the song repertoire. Neil and Sholto also include selections from Schumann's Frauenliebe und -leben, interspersed with songs from Cheryl Frances-Hoad's One Life Stand, a glittering work written as a companion piece to the Schumann cycle.
Neil is a graduate of Leeds College of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music and the National Opera Studio. He started life as a pianist, conductor and punk-rocker before having a Damascene moment and falling in love with classical singing. A former Britten-Pears, Samling, Momentum and Concordia artist, he is the first opera singer to be booked by the Glastonbury Festival in the Astrolabe Tent and the first to beatbox in an opera at Longborough Festival Opera.
Tickets £15 include coffee and cake.
