Monteverdi's beautiful opera L'Orfeo is recognised as one of the first fully developed operas.
Our soloists will be joined by the HPO Singers for a concert version of this remarkable work, with accompaniment provided by Ensemble OrQuesta Baroque.
L'Orfeo was written by Claudio Monteverdi in 1607 to a libretto by the young lawyer and career diplomat Alessandro Striggio. It is based on the Greek legend of Orpheus and tells the story of his descent to Hades and his fruitless attempt to bring his bride back to the living world.
