A British Museum Bayeux Around Britain exhibition supported by WorldQuant
Step into the story of 1066 and explore one of the world's most famous medieval artworks through this new exhibition.
Hastings Museum & Art Gallery is delighted to be part of the British Museum's Bayeux Around Britain National Programme, bringing the story of the Bayeux Tapestry to Hastings – a place at the heart of the events it depicts. Discover the dramatic story of the Norman Conquest through a series of stunning animations and images sourced from the Bayeux Tapestry, alongside objects from Hastings Museum & Art Gallery's own collections.
The exhibition explores the people, events and extraordinary visual storytelling of the Bayeux Tapestry, from Edward the Confessor and Harold Godwinson to William, Duke of Normandy, and the Battle of Hastings. Follow the story as it unfolds through the Tapestry's vivid scenes, discovering the people, places and events behind one of the most famous episodes in English history.
With Hastings and the surrounding area providing the setting for the events that brought the Tapestry's story to its dramatic climax, there is perhaps no better place to explore this extraordinary medieval artwork.
Five filmic chapters will be set throughout the museum's galleries, and the complete film will be screened on cinema scale in the magnificent Durbar Hall*.
* Please note: Check availability before your visit, as during other programmed events the Durbar Hall may be unavailable.
