To mark the 950th anniversary, Hastings Museum & Art Gallery will be opening a new display of its local history collections, from 1066 up to the present day.
Hastings has a fascinating history and a unique and quirky character. The exhibition will reflect this through a selection of 66 key stories and the objects that represent them. Themes include Hasting’s Norman castle, its changing role as a Cinque Port, the founding of the new town of St Leonards and the rise and fall of the seaside resort.
As far as possible, we’ll put people at the centre of the story, from local characters like the 11th century moneyer Dunninc and medieval Geoffrey the Scrivener to those who have had an international impact, like Robert Tressell and John Logie Baird.
Telling this story is a huge undertaking, so the Museum is asking for help in narrowing down the choice of objects for many of the key themes. The first objects are now up for your vote on the HMAG Facebook page.
