Zubenelakrab is a new, site-specific performance by St Leonards-based artist, Miroslava Večeřová, commissioned by De La Warr Pavilion and Flatland Projects. Taking place in the tidal zone on the seafront of the Pavilion at golden hour, Zubenelakrab celebrates one of the two cycles of change known as Autumn Equinox through a poetic and personal interpretation of this concept.
From an astronomical point of view, the Autumn Equinox marks the moment when the Sun crosses the celestial equator moving southward resulting in equal day and night. In the Northern Hemisphere, it signals the beginning of autumn and the shift towards shorter days and longer nights. In 2025, the Autumn Equinox in the UK will fall on September 22nd at 19:19 BST. Acting as a harbinger of this seasonal shift, Večeřová invites audiences to gather at the boundary between land and sea for a performance incorporating sound, sculpture, and collective ritual.
