Monteverdi Madrigals

Ensemble OrQuesta Baroque
Marcio first developed his work on Monteverdi's Madrigals with Ensemble OrQuesta - the baroque company which he founded to focus on the performance of early music. Soloists from this group gave a performance of selected madrigals in London in 2022, and from this Marcio has chosen pieces for HPO Singers to explore.
Monteverdi composed madrigals which combined beautiful melodies and richly interwoven harmonies. This promises to be an atmospheric evening full of glorious and uplifting music.
This concert focuses on pieces from the Seventh and Eighth Books, but to fully appreciate these it is useful to have some understanding of Monteverdi's madrigal composition journey.
