War time Hastings

About

Which street in Hastings still has an air raid siren?

Where did a Canadian regiment have its Hastings HQ?

How did Queen Victoria become the victim of gunfire in the 1940s?

Like other towns on the south coast, Hastings was in the 'front line' during the Second World War. Barbed wire was placed along the seafront in preparation for a German invasion, and St. Clement's Caves were used as air raid shelters during the bombing raids.

But despite the terrible conditions, people managed to cope - often with the traditional British sense of humour.

Whether for a trip down memory lane or to answer some questions, this talk by historian Ken Brooks (illustrated with large screen images and photographs) will reveal Hastings as it was in WW2.
