David studied illustration and design at Hastings School of Art and subsequently worked freelance for advertising agencies, national magazines, book- publishers and museums, specialising in illustrated heritage maps and historical reconstruction artwork.
These commissions involved drawing and painting period buildings, wildlife, landscape and re-imagining historical scenes. He has continued these themes, developing a love of drawing in pen and ink with water-colour washes and in the last couple of years painting in acrylics on canvas, which has allowed him to produce larger works.
A fascination with detail and combining several images in one painting, whilst weaving these into a satisfying overall design is a great passion and challenge. A strong illustrative element, imagination and a nod to the past are all features represented in his work.
