Join award-winning poet Martin Kiszko, known as the UK’s “Green Poet”, for a unique creative workshop inspired by his book Bayeux Tapestry: The Epic Poem - the first epic poem to retell the story of the Bayeux Tapestry in verse.
Perfect for anyone aged 10 and above, this interactive session invites participants to become “Tapestry Detectives”, exploring the people, events and mysteries woven into one of the world's most famous medieval artworks. Through poetry, storytelling and discussion, you will delve into the dramatic events leading up to the Battle of Hastings, examine the competing claims to the English throne, and gain new insights into life in medieval England.
The workshop also encourages participants to investigate the Tapestry's unexplained scenes and missing ending, using creativity and imagination to develop their own interpretations and alternative storylines. Attendees will have the opportunity to write original poetry inspired by the Tapestry's narrative and create their own ending to this remarkable historical story.
Whether you are interested in history, literature, creative writing or the Norman Conquest, this engaging event offers a fresh and imaginative way to connect with the story of 1066.
