This summer, Barefoot Opera brings you a unique evening. A double bill, combining a well-loved opera favourite with a beautiful rarity that share a commonality - our search for love and inspiration in a dangerous world.
Gluck's famous opera Orfeo ed Euridice, featuring one of the world's most loved arias, "Che faro senza Euridice," retells the classic Greek tale of the poet Orpheus and his journey to the underworld to find and revive his one true love. Barefoot Opera condenses and intensifies Gluck's score in order to create one powerful act.
The second part of the evening features Zanetto, by Puccini's contemporary Mascagni, (Cavalleria Rusticana). Silvia, a rich and beautiful courtesan who both finds and renounces true love, strongly resembles her operatic cousin Violetta from La Traviata by Verdi and shares a similar fate.
Musical direction is by Lesley-Anne Sammons and the production will be accompanied by the Barefoot Band. The production will be directed by Lysanne van Overbeek, artistic director of Over the Pond Productions and associate at Barefoot Opera.
We will be the closing event for Battle Festival, where you can enjoy opera and a peaceful summer picnic at the same time. Book tickets for our outdoor performance in the beautiful grounds of Battle Abbey, 6pm on the 8th August. (www.battlefestival.co.uk)
We will also be performing on Friday the 13th August at St John the Evangelist Church, Pevensey Road, St Leonards-on-Sea. Enjoy a glamorous evening at the opera in this beautiful church and book your tickets now on www.barefootopera.com.
