On the face of it The Bell is a quintessentially English pub – but poke your head through its welcoming doors and you will find much more. For all the world it feels as though an eccentric nobleman has travelled the world stuffing his home with curiosities from his travels.
The result is utterly charming. A truly independent public house, serving great local beers and splendid food by Head Chef Mark Charker who cooks a creative menu of essentially British cuisine with French influences.
Pick the right night and you may stumble upon one of the many cultural events curated by The Bell such as community film nights, world class comedy, talks and live jazz.
With a Big Room for celebrations, the Stable with a table for private dining up to 22, the snuggest of snugs and a stunning garden designed by RHS award-wining designer Jo Thompson, the pub has many awards and accolades to its name, including the Michelin Guide and Sussex Life’s Best Sussex Pub Award. The Bell has been serving locals and travellers for over 400 years and a warm welcome awaits you.
Staying overnight at The Bell
There are seven comfortable bedrooms above the historic pub, which are quirky in the truest sense of the word. With supremely comfortable hand-made mattresses, guests will delight in the attention to detail at every turn.
Venture through the willow arch to the garden within a garden to find three lodges and one unique Love Nest. The woven nest looks for all the world as if it is perched on top of a supporting trunk.
The maze-like structure around the fire pit calls for a second look. These are carefully curated spaces where guests are free to create their own memories. They are the ultimate escape from the day-to-day, where everyone is encouraged to become part of the story of The Bell.
