Spanning both of our galleries, 'Can't You See the Sea Changing?' will be Zineb Sedira's first solo exhibition in a UK public gallery for over 12 years and follows her acclaimed exhibition, 'Dreams Have No Titles' for the French Pavilion at this year's Venice Biennale, which received the Special Mention of the Jury.
Zineb Sedira is a storyteller. Through film, photography and sculptural installation, Sedira tells us about ships and shipwrecks, rugged coastlines and lighthouses, focussing on ideas of migration, transnational trade and identity, with the sea being a recurring motif in the sound and visuals of the work. The artist has also recreated a corner of her Brixton studio in the gallery, where you can see her collection of ships models, atlases, photographs and paintings picked up from flea markets over many years.
