Journeys Festival of Dance takes place at The Stade in Hastings (Saturday) and at the De La Warr Pavilion Terrace (Sunday) on the last weekend in September. It is free and participatory and mainstreams diversity throughout the event.
On Saturday:
'Dandyism' choreographed by Patrick ZizA - Inspired by the gentlemen of the Congo. The appropriation of the 18th Century French and English Dandy's flamboyance by African men was a defence and a provocation against slavery, described by some as a resistance movement. By the 1960s African Dandyism had become a phenomenon.
Zong Zing Allstars - London-based Zong Zing All Stars are a 8-piece band playing infectiously euphoric 'Cavacha' dance music from Central Africa. Driving percussion forms an irresistible core rhythm, combined with vocal harmonies and intricate guitar work. They deliver a joyful, uplifting and engaging performance combined with acrobatic dancers who are sure to get any crowd moving!
