DFL (Down From London) is a new play set in Hastings. The first scene will be performed three times in Bottle Alley on Saturday 20th July 2024 and is set during the Hastings Pirate Day festivities which are happening that weekend.
Over the next twelve months, Hastings will host a series of unique theatrical events. Hastings Theatre
Project presents six short scenes set during key occasions in the town's calendar and performed in different
locations. DFL (Down From London) is a girl-meets-boy romcom interrogating contemporary themes - think
One Day-on-Sea, or Notting Hill on the West Hill.
While on his work-break, Hastings local Noah is surprised when his ex, Lydia, turns up in full pirate gear,
with news that she's moved down from London. What can possibly go wrong?
This play is supported by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England. The show
will be presented on a 'Pay What You Decide' basis, meaning audiences can choose from different price
points which suit them to watch an exciting piece of new theatre.
Theatre by, for, and with the people of Hastings.
Hastings Theatre Project is a brand-new theatre organisation based in Hastings. HTP was formed on the
back of a long research project about theatre and new work locally, and exists to champion, progress, and
make theatre by, for, and with the people of our town. As well as making DFL, HTP also sends out regular
curated emails of local theatrical events, hosts a network of local theatre professionals, and provides
funding and producing advice for local artists. DFL is HTP's first show, but plans are already afoot to
support Hastings artists through work-in-progress events, and grow the organisation into the future. HTP is
led by Dan Hutton and Poppy Rowley.
