The Jerwood Gallery is now closed. On 6 July 2019 it relaunches as Hastings Contemporary.

Providing a platform for exhibitions by some of the world's most celebrated artists, first up are Tal R and Roy Oxlade, plus works by David Bomberg & Sir Quentin Blake.

Nestling between the fishing beach and Hastings Old Town, Hastings Contemporary is sensitively and intuitively designed,(HAT Projects) to complement the surrounding environment. On opening as the Jerwood Gallery in 2012 it won a RIBA National Award and Civic Trust Award. It was included in the Observer's top buildings of 2012.

The exterior is clad in over 8000 black ceramic tiles, hand-glazed a few miles away in Kent, which reflect the changing seaside light. The emphasis on sustainability is exemplary, with the building creating 60% less CO2 per m2 than an average museum of a comparable size. It houses a range of gallery spaces from initimate rooms through to a dramatic 180m2 exhibition space.

The gallery cafe, Webbes, boasts a lovely sun terrace and fantastic views over Hastings and the fishing beach.

Late opening until 8pm of Hastings Contemporary every first Tuesday of the month. FREE ENTRY to all.

There will be times when the gallery will be closed for maintenance and exhibition turnover - please check the website for up to date information
