England’s wine scene is getting a fresh boost with the launch of the Rother Wine Triangle, the first Sussex Winelands trail, launched during English Wine Week 2025, it's set to elevate Sussex as a must-visit destination for wine lovers.

English Wine is well and truly on the map, and we are here to introduce you to the 7 vineyards participating in the Rother Wine Triangle. We had a chat with the vineyards to find out exactly why you should add them to your growing list of vineyards to visit...


Tillingham

Tillingham  is a biodynamic vineyard, winery, and destination set on a 70-acre farm in the rolling hills of East Sussex, just outside the ancient town of Rye. With far-reaching views over the Romney Marsh and a laid-back, design-led atmosphere, Tillingham offers a unique blend of rural charm and contemporary hospitality.

Tillingham began in 2017 with a bold vision: to create a place where regenerative farming, natural winemaking, and thoughtful hospitality could come together under one roof. Since then, it has evolved into a dynamic, ever-changing space rooted in sustainability, creativity, and curiosity. Whether it’s the way they farm our vines, bake their sourdough, or welcome guests, everything at Tillingham is shaped by a commitment to doing things differently and doing them well.

What’s Available

Visitors can enjoy a range of experiences, including guided wine tastings & vineyard tours, and seasonal events - Arts, Wellbeing & Music. Their upstairs restaurant offers a refined tasting menu showcasing the best local produce, while the pizza barn serves up casual food in a more relaxed setting. They also host immersive stays in an eleven-room hotel and run regular workshops, DJ nights, and collaborations with local creatives.

The Pet Nat is their most popular which reflects the land and low-intervention methods that define their winemaking. Also popular (and about to hit the shelves) will be their Rose, Vintage’24 back just in time for summer!

Charles Palmer Vineyards

Charles Palmer Vineyards  is a family run single estate located in Winchelsea. Their friendly and passionate team is made up of 4 family members and 2 neighbours. The family planted their first vines in 2006, and the estate covers a total of 120 acres of which 40 acres are in vines. Production of each wine is carried out in small batches with incredible attention to detail and passion. The team make sure only the best grapes are used, resulting in an exclusive and unique collection of vintages still and sparkling wines.

What’s Available

Charles Palmer Vineyards run a staggering 14 wine tasting per week in their cosy cellar door, including wine and cheese pairings. All wine tastings also include a tour of the new Winery. You can also pop by during opening hours to purchase by the glass or bottle. Conveniently the Cellar Door and Vineyards are situated just 4 miles from Rye, which is a 10-minute journey via car or taxi. If you’d prefer to visit via foot, you can reach it via the 1066 Walk footpath for a scenic route. 

Don't want the trip to end? Why not stay the night... The charming onsite accommodation, Wickham Manor, was built in 1580 and can be found in both Mr Holmes and The Crown on Netflix. It gives you all the feels for Old England with views of the sea and farmland!

Their first Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines were planted in 2006 and now have 40 acres under vine including a new Piwi variety, Sauvignac, which is a cross between Sauvignon Blanc and Reisling.

Why Visit?

The estate’s vineyards benefit from an ideal climate for vines, with its close proximity to the sea, south facing slope, and its terroir in particular. The lowest part of the vineyard is a mere 5 metres above sea level and sits above a bed of Kimmeridgian clay similar to the Grand Crus of Burgundy. The result? Memorable wines that you'll want to take home. 

Hosting multiple events, Charles Palmer Vineyards offer a relaxed and welcoming offering. With award-winning wines, a new winery and a fantastic, jam-packed events calendar, there is something for everyone. 


Oastbrook

Oastbrook Estate Vineyard  is an authentic English vineyard that offers award-winning English wines and quality experiences you will remember. Set in the beautiful Rother Valley their Sussex wine is outstanding; we recommend the sparkling rosé.

Their story is based on the hard work of winemaker and owner, America. Originally from Brazil, she settled in the countryside with her husband nick. Having planted some vines alongside the Oast and accidentally creating a positive crop, they decided to follow down the route of winemaking.

Oastbrook practices sustainable winegrowing and winemaking and the owners are passionate supporters of minimal intervention and soil health. 

What’s Available

Experience the passion of vineyard owners on a vineyard tour of the estate. Learn about how they established the vineyard, their plans, the different varieties of grape and most importantly – the wine.

Visitors can enjoy guided tours, tastings, and even luxurious vineyard stays in a unique hobbit-style accommodation. It is the perfect destination for wine lovers. If you’re looking for something different, they have a lodge as well as luxury glamping options for those looking to admire the dark skies of the Sussex countryside.

Voted one of the best vineyard tours in England, each tour is a fun experience, perfect for both wine enthusiasts and newbies.

Oastbrook’s location is the perfect base to explore the local history and beauty of 1066 Country. Located in Bodiam, it is near Bodiam Castle and the heritage railway, making it the perfect spot to stay overnight and make a weekend of it.


Oxney

Oxney Organic Estate, close to Rye, is the largest single-estate producer of English organic wine. The awards speak for themselves! The vineyard is 17 meters above sea level and six miles from the English Channel and from a south-west slope stretches out towards a wood with giant oak trees, creating a warm and protected microclimate.

With a focus on organic farming, Oxney’s wines truly do showcase their hard-work and dedication. The team at Oxney believe that the future of English Wine is organic – and their wine holds its weight in gold. Having made sure they produce quality and pure fruit that is required for wine, they now grow on 35-acres and produce both still and sparkling wines that are celebrated globally.

As they say “the proof is in the bottle”.

You can visit for tours and tastings and stay in beautiful accommodation. The winery is located in an old picturesque Oast in the middle of the vineyard. With tours and wine flights available throughout the year, it is the perfect spot for exploring English Organic Wine.

Want to stay longer? You are spoilt for choice with several options including converted barns, shepherd’s huts and a cottage next to the vineyard. The gorgeous, rural location of Oxney Organic makes it a fantastic spot to escape the city, try new wines and enjoy the stars and sounds of the English countryside.

Carr Taylor

David and Linda Carr Taylor began their winemaking venture at Carr Taylor Vineyards in the 1970s and have since gone from strength to strength, producing award-winning wine and putting English wine firmly on the map. 

In 1983 an exceptional harvest meant Carr Taylor could experiment with sparkling wine. They produced over 10,000 bottles of traditionally fermented sparkling English wine and this was the first commercially available traditional method sparkling wine made in England.

Their choice of site has enabled Carr Taylor to be an internationally recognised successful vineyard. With a rolling, south-facing slope, low altitude (about 40 metres above sea level) and the warmer temperature of the UK, it has enabled the ideal climate for their vineyard.

With tastings, tours, cream teas and private group tours available, you really do have access to a vineyard that has been pivotal in the history of English Wine.


Sedlescombe Organic

Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in England. Nestled in the Sussex countryside in an area of outstanding natural beauty, they use biodynamic principles and bringing sustainability to everything they can.

They have been producing award-winning wines since 1979 and continue to go above and beyond for their passion and dedication to wine making.

The vineyard creates a range of organic still and sparkling English wines that are made to be memorable. If you’re looking for somewhere new to visit and want somewhere that is environmentally conscious, Sedlescombe is the option for you.

What’s Available

With tours available throughout the year, Sedlescombe Organic offer everything a wine lover would need. With themed events, bottomless brunches, seasonal events and much more on throughout the year, we highly recommend keeping an eye out for their events.

They are also open for glasses of wine, food as well as hot and cold drinks. Set in a beautifully tranquil space, it is a brilliant option for enjoying the patio in the summer and cosying up in their tasting room with a board game in the winter.


Mountfield

Mountfield are a boutique vineyard located in beautiful countryside and surrounded  by woodlands. They produce high-quality wines at low quantities to ensure they are offering the very best. The family-run vineyard offers visitors a relaxed approach to English Wine whilst offering premium produce. 

The vineyard has 14,000 vines of chardonnay, pinot noir and pinot meunier. Their production is manageable enough that they can look after every grape carefully - resulting in unbeatable English wines. 

What's Available

Visitors can enjoy tours and tastings, picnics, antiques and vintage fairs, BBQs and everything inbetween for those looking for a peaceful and picturesque setting. 

Mountfield pride themselves on producing low quantities of first class sparkling wine that are designed to be enjoyed in their tasting room.

Mountfield offer 3 sparkling wines, Blanc de Blancs , Classic Cuvée and a Rosé but the 2017 classic Cuvee is an extremely popular option!
