Discover Castle Water's wetland birds in a peaceful New Year guided walk with Ranger David in one of the best places for birds in Sussex!
Walk Leader: David King
Join Ranger Dave for an exclusive sunset guided walk starting out from Brede Lock on Harbour Road. We'll take in Castle Water and the farmed part of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, a peaceful and less-visited part of the reserve.
Focusing on the winter birds roosting and hunting in the wetlands, reedbeds and farmland, we'll take a linear walk across the fields out to Castle Water, a freshwater pit managed for wetland wildlife. We'll stop at the 'Viewpoint' platform overlooking the reedbeds - an excellent place for birdwatching with a beautiful, scenic view. There'll be opportunities to ask questions on our walk and hear from Dave about the work of the Rangers and volunteers.
What to bring: Warm clothes, binoculars if you have them, and a drink. Please dress for the weather, waterproof footwear is recommended as the grass may be wet. Sunset is at 4pm so you'll need a torch to navigate the last part of the walk.
Toilet facilities: The nearest public toilet is half a mile away on the quay in the town of Rye at 7 Strand, Rye, TN31 7DB – the disabled toilet can be accessed with a radar key.
Dogs: No dogs, except for assistance dogs, please.
