About

GILLES | Messe des Morts
RAMEAU | Quam dilecta tabernacula
HPO SINGERS
Conductor | Marcio da Silva

This concert of choral music from the early 18th-century promises to be a real treat. It includes two rarely heard gems which were hailed in their time as outstanding compositions.

The first has been neglected in modern times, but was one of the most performed pieces in 18th-century France - Jean Gilles' Requiem. Rather than dampen our spirits, this uplifting 'Messe des Morts' seems to suggest that 'since we all have to die, it is better to meet death dancing'.

The second is the harmonically rich grand motet 'Quam dilecta tabernacula' - 'How amiable are thy dwelling places' - written by the gifted and innovative French composer Jean-Phillippe Rameau.
