About

Richard Lester - Cello

Cello Concerto Elgar
Symphony no.5 Tchaikovsky

This will be Richard Lester's debut with the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra, playing one of the most celebrated cello concertos. Elgar's famous cello concerto was composed in the aftermath of the Great War and represents Elgar's lament for a lost world. It is combined with Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony, which is viewed as a milestone in the Romantic Russian repertoire. It is a cyclical symphony with an intensely mournful recurring main theme, and includes one of the most distinguished horn solos in the repertoire.
