Beautiful coastline defines 1066 Country. From Camber Sands and Rye Harbour, through to Winchelsea Beach, Pett Level, Hastings, Bexhill and Pevensey Bay.
Camber is surely the ultimate beach, with its white sand dunes, marram grass and wide, shallow beach. Children will love collecting shells, building sandcastles, paddling in the sea and sliding down the dunes (and perhaps some adults will too).
Over the other side of the River Rother you'll find the Rye Harbour Nature Reserve & Discovery Centre. You'll want to pop by here for cycling and boat trips with Full Throttle Boat Charters or Rye Harbour Sea Safari & Boat Trips.
For the traditional seaside experience complete with amusements, funfairs, a pier, and convenient access to shops, cafés and restaurants, head to Hastings. With a dramatic mix of shingle, sand and soaring cliffs of the Hastings Country Park, the beach stretches the length of the town and beyond.
Bexhill-on-Sea features a fantastic promenade and the iconic De La Warr Pavilion if you need a little respite from the sunshine. It was also one of the first beaches in Britain to allow men and women to swim together. What scandal!

Beach Safety
Please visit the RNLI website for helpful advice for beach safety and swimming. The sea can be dangerous, especially if you are not a competent swimmer. Strong currents, especially rip currents, may not be immediately obvious. We've also put together a beach safety guide for Camber.
Lifeguards
Lifeguards typically operate at designated spots at Camber, Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill during the Summer months. Please take a look at the RNLI Lifeguarded Beachs Map for up to date information.
Water Pollution
It is advised that you check the water quality online before swimming. You can find this on the Environment Agency website. We also like the Safer Seas and River Services App which is used by many local swimmers.
Congestion
When it’s hot and sunny, the access to Camber becomes very congested. The best times to visit Camber Sands are either early in the morning or later in the afternoon, when it may be quieter.
