The Stag is a 16th Century pub (the town’s oldest) on the most historic street in Hastings Old Town. Our interior is cosy and quirky but far from old-fashioned: original beams, wooden floors, log stoves and twinkly lights. Sneak out the back and you’ll find a lovely three-tiered pub garden – a welcome haven away from the busy sea front.
Our fabulous (and adorable) chef, Ben, offers some of the best food available in Hastings, serving Thursday to Saturday. The food is contemporary, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients and fresh fish. Simple dishes, well cooked, beautifully presented. On Sundays we offer a traditional Sunday pub lunch.
The Stag is a respected roots music venue for the many Hastings event weekends. We host frequent live Americana and folk bands as well as a Tuesday folk club and an occasional Americana session on a Wednesday. Look out for our special Dinner-Gigs — three courses and live entertainment. Add in Hastings' liveliest Quiz (Mondays) and there's something for all tastes.
We are a friendly, family-run team and we are proud of our pub. Come see us, we are one of Hastings best kept secrets. Ask us to tell you tales of ghosts, smugglers and our mummified cats!
