Exterior picture of The Stag Inn, in Hastings, East Sussex.

The Stag is a 16th Century pub (the town’s oldest) on the most historic street in Hastings Old Town. Our interior is cosy and quirky but far from old-fashioned: original beams, wooden floors, log stoves and twinkly lights. Sneak out the back and you’ll find a lovely three-tiered pub garden – a welcome haven away from the busy sea front.

Our fabulous (and adorable) chef, Ben, offers some of the best food available in Hastings, serving Thursday to Saturday. The food is contemporary, with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients and fresh fish. Simple dishes, well cooked, beautifully presented. On Sundays we offer a traditional Sunday pub lunch, 12.30 to 3.30.

The Stag is a respected roots music venue and a hub for the many Hastings event weekends. At the moment we are arranging special musical dinners and regular monthly food-based events. We will bring back live bands and weekly music as soon as we are able. Check our Facebook page for upcoming events.

We are a friendly, family-run team and we are proud of our pub, with its smugglers, ghosts and mummified cats. Come see us, we are one of Hastings best kept secrets.

Nic, Nick, Nat & Ben.
