The UK’s largest Mardi Gras celebration – the Hastings Fat Tuesday Festival – takes place from 21-25 February 2020.
Hailed as Hastings’ answer to SXSW in Texas, or Brighton’s Great Escape festival, Hastings Fat Tuesday is one of the jewels in the town’s cultural crown and celebrates its 11th year in 2020.
Boasting heavyweight headliners Baxter Dury and Craig Charles, a cornucopia of musicians (signed and emerging) playing hundreds of free gigs across the town, a two day celebration of experimental music, sound art & film (headlined by Plaid and DJ Food), an umbrella parade and an opulent Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball to dress up for – it’s worth packing a bag and heading South for a few days to enjoy the merriment.
There are also free workshops for children (and indeed all ages), to decorate umbrellas for the parade.
Historic Hastings sits within 1066 Country, not far from the capital. From earliest times to present day it has been a place of creativity and escape – alternative lives lived and timeless stories told. Original by nature, it has its own take on contemporary living and culture – a perfect place for your staycation or UK mini break.
