About

Rye Arts Festival's Golden anniversary

The 50th anniversary Rye Arts Festival between 10-26 September 2021 offers the biggest and best programme in its long history of bringing the highest quality artistes (from the UK and abroad) to the lovely and historic Cinque Ports town.

The Festival is offering a packed programme of over ticketed 60 events, including musicians from a wide range of genres, authors, drama, films and themed walks. There is something for everyone, including free street entertainment for all the family in Rye Citadel on the opening Saturday 10th September.

High quality music ranges from opera to bluegrass, via Beethoven and English folk. Highlights include the great Russian cellist Leonid Gorokhov making a rare concert visit to the UK, and The Hill Quartet are reprising Roxanna Panufnik's Cantator and Amanda, which was commissioned for the Festival's 40th anniversary. Errol Linton brings his red hot Blues Vibe to town and Crooked Weather provide the finest of modern British folk music, while Vera van Heeringen provides Americana at its very best!

The biggest ever books and talks programme, includes a Rye Crime Day, featuring authors from this popular genre, and an inaugural Rye Spy Day, where the focus is on secret agents and espionage. Also, look out for talks by Gyles Brandreth and the Reverend Richard Coles as well as Lord Kenneth Baker, the former MP and Education Secretary, on political assassinations!

Drama will feature actor Gerard Logan is chillingly reading some of EF Benson's ghost stories (with Rye Town Crier offering a post-show Ghost Walk around town for those with a taste for fear)!

And there is much, much more to enjoy.
