A Norwegian marching band will be serenading visitors to Hastings Castle on Monday, 27 June.

The 25-strong band, whose members come from Risør in southern Norway, are in the UK to take part in a series of competitions, seminars and workshops.

The band’s leader contacted staff at the historic castle to see if it would be ok for them to perform there during their visit.

“It’s not every day you receive a request from Norway for a marching band to perform inside the castle grounds!” said Hastings’ Castle’s Leanna Lawson.

“However we thought it sounded like a great idea and will certainly be an added attraction to our visitors,” she added.

Formed in 1948, the Risør Skolemusikkorps is made up of musicians all aged between 11 and 19 years of age. They will be conducted by Rune Hansen.

The band are due to arrive at 10.30am on Monday and will be playing a selection of popular tunes including ‘Timber’, ‘Just Dance’, ‘Thriller’, ‘Firework’ and the theme from the Muppets Show.

With its stunning views across the town and out to sea  Hastings Castle is forever linked with the most famous date in English history 1066.

Visitors can walk around the ruins of Hastings Castle and explore the cloistered chapel, the East Gate and the Chapter House.

They can also discover the dungeons carved out of the rock beneath the North Gate and find out all about the fascinating history of Britain’s first Norman castle.
