'St Just', in Croft Road, Hastings, was used as the residence of Detective Chief Superintendent Christopher Foyle in the British detective drama television series set during and shortly after the Second World War.
The first series of Foyle’s War was broadcast on ITV in November 2002, the second in November 2003, the third in November 2004 and the fourth in early 2006.
A fifth series was filmed in late spring and was aired in late 2006/early 2007 and a sixth and final series was filmed in spring 2007 for transmission later in the year.
The traditional charm and gentle pace of this Hastings-set Second World War detective drama attracts nearly 9 million viewers for every feature-length episode in the UK alone. Worldwide, over 60 million people watch the show.
The title character DCI Foyle (Michael Kitchen) is kept out of the war effort by an injury and so devotes his time to solving homeland crimes in the South East of England. Foyle is assisted by his driver Samantha “Sam” Stewart (Honeysuckle Weeks) and Detective Sergeant Paul Milner (Anthony Howell).
Almost every location used for the show is renamed but Hastings keeps its name and is often mentioned several times during the course of an episode!
