The Importance of Being Earnest by The Pantaloons

Stade Hall, Hastings, East Sussex, TN34 3JF
The Importance of Being Earnest by The Pantaloons

About

This summer, The Pantaloons theatre company are bringing their fast-paced, physical and fantastically funny production of The Importance of Being Earnest to sixty different indoor and open-air venues around the country – including the Stade Hall in Hastings!

Oscar Wilde's classic comedy of manners is one of the best-loved plays ever written. The wonderfully witty lines are just as funny today as they were when the play was first performed in 1895.

Everybody loves Ernest. In fact, Cecily and Gwendolen are both engaged to Ernest. The only trouble is, he doesn't exist. Or does he…?

Best friends Jack and Algy have both created alter-egos to win the affections of their beloveds; but when will they stop being Ernest and start being, well, earnest?

Wilde's comic masterpiece gets The Pantaloons treatment in their anarchic take on the classic comedy of manners. This energetic and musical production from the critically-acclaimed company infuses Wilde's witty words with snappy new songs and frantically funny physical theatre to give this perennially popular play a hilarious contemporary twist!

"Wonderfully inventive … catching this touring show will feel like putting on a forgotten pair of slippers and finding them even more comfy than you recall." (Rotherham Advertiser)

The Pantaloons are a vibrant and anarchic theatre company whose style draws from a wide variety of popular theatre traditions from commedia dell'arte and clowning to stand-up comedy and silent movies.

Audiences can expect larger-than-life characters, such as the indomitable Lady Bracknell, moments of audience interaction and live music provided by the multi-talented cast.

This is a performance for everyone to enjoy! Adult tickets £12, Child tickets £7. Children under the age of 3 can come along for free!

Performed at the Stade Hall, The Stade, Hastings Old Town, TN34 3FJ
