The Great Gatsby Fair

During the weekend of 21 and 22 July - a new roaring 20's themed event at Bexhill's Metropole Lawns takes place beside the De La Warr Pavilion and along the seafront.

Bexhill is in for a real treat this year when Bentleys Fairs introduce their fabulous new event The Great Gatsbuy Fair.

It's a great weekend to dress in your best vintage clothes (or not) and join in the fun.   Come and see the classic cars, and vintage bikes, with music and dance displays.

Lindy Hop, Morris dancers, Stilt walkers, children's entertainers, performing arts schools will show off their talents, there is also a Brolly Parade and marching band.  All of this is free to enjoy for everyone.

Harold the Trolley Bus will be there, just 90 years old this year!

Food Feast South East will be bringing in some delicious food, flaming grills, BBQ's steaks, sausages and chicken and Vegetarians and Vegans will have a good menu choice too.   Bars will serve ice cold beer, speciality wines, cocktails and mocktails.

AVintage Village Fair will be curated by Pop Up Vintage Fairs London, winners of the best vintage fair for 3 consecutive years, so you can expect so

The highlight of the weekend are the two afternoon dance parties.  These events are ticketed for adults at £10 and free to children under 16.  They start at 2pm both days.

Saturday

The Charleston Party gets underway for 2pm at the marquee on the Metropole Lawns beside the De La Warr Pavilion.  A complimentary drink on arrival to get this party started!  Come and dance to the sounds of The Roaring Twenties Swing Band.   The Savoy Kicks Charleston dance troupe will be on stage taking you through the dance moves for the Charleston Dance competition which follows on with cash prizes for the winning contestants in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.  The fancy dress theme is Bonnie & Clyde (any age) with cash and other prizes for the winners.

Sunday

The Retro Party starts at 2pm with a complimentary drink on arrival to get things going!  Introducing 'The Peaky Blinder' 40s singer Pete Wayre with his great repertoire of all the old classic songs associated with the 'Gatsby' era.  The Hastings Stompers will keep the jazz music flowing with their distinctive sound.  More cash prizes for dance competitions and the fancy dress theme is Peaky Blinders & Guys and Dolls (all ages) and The Best Dressed Lady and Gent.

The parties are not just restricted to dancers and people wearing period dress, everyone is most welcome to join in with these two events.

A selection of sandwiches, cakes, tea, coffee will be available on both days.  There will also be an opportunity to have your photo taken beside an authentic background.

Photographers - there is a competition for the best photo taken at the event with a £50 cash prize.  Please register your interest here.
