Dance Festival

Dance Festival – Journeys – 26 and 28 August

Journeys is a free, participatory dance experience over August Bank Holiday in Battle, Hastings and Bexhill.  Watch outstanding contemporary dance and learn something new.  All events are free.

Saturday 26 August - Battle Abbey Apron

1.30pm and 2.30pm - Secret Encounters C-12 Dance Theatre

Witty and immersive pop-up dance from a renowned company (fresh from Greenwich International Festival).  They explore the strange and often hilarious world of online dating.

The Stade Open Space, Hastings

8pm:  Compagnie Bilbobasso present Polar

Bilbobasso recreate the lively but sinister atmosphere of Buenos Aires cabaret where dancers, gangster and musicians lurk in the shadows.  Then the piano explodes, hats blaze, fans flare up, fire becomes a force of seduction and tango is forever.

Monday 28 August - Bexhill

1.30pm:  Stopgap present The Awakening

Chris Pavia is a dancer/choreographer with Downs Syndrome, who has been commissioned to make a 20-minute outdoor dance piece for national and international touring.  As an artist, Chris is interested in examining the anxiety of being stranded.  He associates this anxiety with his worst nighmare, which gives his choreography hynotic and dreamy qualities.  Through his work, he is telling us that 'we might be able to get out of this bad dream if we could just wake up.'
