Bexhill Festival of the Sea

Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 September 

The Festival kicks off with a brilliant weekend event next to the De La Warr Pavilion with over 50 stalls highlighting local Sussex produce and global seafood cuisine, English wine, arts & crafts, local charities, marine and wildlife conservation, free angling coaching, dancing and a fantastic line up of live music.

On Saturday 1 September the Festival beach will play host to a gathering of Mermaids.  Mermaids, Mermen and MerBabies will grace the shore.  Don a tail and come along to parade for trophy competitions.  Monofin Mermaids will host a Mermaid Swim at Battle Abbey Swimming Pool (advance booking essential). 

Mermaid trophy categories are:

Best mermaid or merman under 12 yrs old
Best mermaid group
Most humorous entry
Best merman
Best mermaid (two categories)
Monofin tail
Home-made tail

On Sunday 2 September Peter Knight's Gigspanner is his Big Band format featuring the Edgelarks.  Liane Carroll and Roger Carey will add to the great line up in one show. 

Marine Conservation Society, Sussex Wildlife Trust, Rye Bay Nature Reserve and the RSPB bring the wonders of the shores and oceans and share their vast experience of our marine environment.

The Anging Festival presents many weeks of major competitions attracting anglers from many regions  The challenges start on Monday 9 September.  Competition reflect several sea angling pursuits with beach, boat, specimen hunt, juniors, and a bass specimen hunt.  All beach matches are catch and release.
