Set in 100 acres of beautiful countryside, the Rare Breeds Centre offers fun and adventure for families all year round.
Visit our Meet the Animals Barn, where the children can pet our friendly animals including Lady Rhona our Shire Horse, guinea pigs, chicks, rabbits and more. Take a walk around the rest of the farm where you can see many of the Rare Breeds we look after.
There are lots of play areas for the kids to let off steam and a woodland assault course where all the family can test their agility. Plus, a zip wire and hill fort, if you are feeling more energetic take the woodland walk, where you can build a den, search for fairies and find The Green Man of the Woods totem pole at the Secret Lake. Just around the corner you will find our Giant Snake to balance and climb on. The further down the hill, our wildflower meadow where you can take a rest on the Giant’s chairs …if you dare!
We hope to open our beautiful Butterfly Tunnel (government rules allowing) (mid-May – October) full of exotic butterflies and moths and colourful, tropical plants or just sit and relax in the Discovery Garden and let the kids explore.
Don’t miss our famous pig-racing at 3.15, it’s great fun and you may be picked to run with the pigs (seasonal and family groups only).
Our Birds of Prey display is on every day at 2.30 pm, so don’t miss these amazing birds flying.
Visit our new patio takeaway, where we sell delicious hot and cold food and drinks at very reasonable prices. Plus our Cabin and Trailer on site snacks. You are also welcome to bring a picnic.
Keep an eye on our website for our events, opening times and prices and don't forget to BOOK IN ADVANCE as we no longer sell day tickets on the gate.
The Rare Breeds Centre is a member of the Rare Breed Survival Trust (RBST) and part of Canterbury Oast Trust, a charity for adults with learning disabilities many of whom learn skills on the farm, so please consider gift aiding your ticket.
