Places To Eat & Drink in Hastings

Eating and drinking in 1066 Country is one of the best past times and you’ll take great pleasure in seeking the many restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars in 1066 Country.

1066 Country has plenty of delis and local farmer’s markets with a strong emphasis on locally sourced home grown food.

If afternoon tea is on your agenda then many traditional cafes provide different variations on this popular theme.

There are several major annual food festivals in 1066 Country to encourage a taste of locally grown and produced food and drink – from Hastings Seafood & Wine Festival in September to Rye Scallops Festival in February where visitors enjoy delicious seafood and local wines, street entertainment and live music.

In Bexhill, the birthplace of British motor racing holds the Festival of the Sea early September, a mixture of sea fishing competitions and a mini seafood festival overlooking the beach.

Back to Rye, Wild Boar Week occurs in the autumn.

The woods around Rye have an abundance of wild boar and the town is glad to celebrate this furry creature with a packed programme of events and menus.

Carr Taylor Vineyards and Sedlescombe Organic Vineyards both take advantage of the ideal climate in this part of Sussex to produce award-winning wines.

Hastings Fish Market is directly connected to the largest beach-launched fishing fleet in Europe and is a Marine Stewardship Council accredited fleet for its sustainable fishing practices.

Not only good for scallops during Rye Scallop Week; Rye can also claim on the succulent Romney Marsh lamb and of course the fish from its own fleet.

The whole 1066 Country area is abundant in restaurants serving local produce, from St Clements in St Leonards and Nobles Restaurant in Battle to countless quality restaurants in Rye, Hastings and surrounds.

You can even start off your day with a Sussex Breakfast in one of the many B&BS who are proud to offer local responsibly produced ingredients.
