Heist Market

About

Heist is a bustling indoor street food market - a local foodie landmark and a one-of-a-kind in the area. The street food offering features Japanese from Arigato, tacos from The Clam, a rotating selection of punchy global flavours from Home Ground Kitchen, and Wild Dogz selling superlative hot dogs and burgers with a focus on game. They are joined by plush seafood restaurant Boatyard (sister to local favourite Farmyard) which offers full table-service and a menu of locally-caught market fish plus seafood and oysters amidst the busy market, with bookings and walk-ins equally accommodated at their banquette tables and open kitchen dining counter.

These food offerings are joined by a stellar selection of drinks. Coffee comes from Bolthole Coffee, using locally-roasted beans to craft everything from filter and flat whites to iced lattes. Craft beer comes from epic local brewery The Three Legs, who pour guest beers alongside their own at their tap, while wine bar and shop Loire De Da (sister to Farmyard and Boatyard restaurants) serves a wide selection of natural and biodynamic wines by the glass, bottle, on tap and to take away. They specialise in wines from France’s Loire Valley, as well as plenty of gems from elsewhere, including local East Sussex favourites such as Tillingham. On weekend evenings, pop-up cocktail bar Wermut serves all things vermouth, including an almighty line-up of Negronis.

Heist is open every day, from 8am for coffees and snacks, with the food stalls and restaurant from midday, and drinks served into the evenings until 11am on weekdays and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. This is except on Sundays, when coffees start from 9am, with food stalls and Boatyard serving special brunch and lunch menus from 11am until close at 6pm, all soundtracked by DJs bringing chilled Sunday vibes.

On hot days, make the most of the market’s sun-trap courtyard to the rear, where herbs and edible flowers used by the food stalls and restaurant chefs are also grown. The market (except Boatyard) has no reservations and the whole space including Boatyard is both family-friendly and dog-friendly.
