About

Naulakha House, an idyllic country hideaway as featured in 25 beautiful homes.  Set in a billowing 6 acres of pastoral countryside away from main roads, 10 minutes drive from Battle and Heathfield in East Sussex.  Pets are welcome, the garden is well fenced.   We face south, and get all the sun.

In the distance Beachy Head, near Eastbourne, reveals glimmering views of the sea that enchant.  There is an orchard, shallow pond, various paddocks and plenty of surrounding space.  The entrance between ancient oaks trees gives no hint of the magic that lies beyond, a delightful and romantic retreat.  Perfect for celebrations, anniversaries, short or long holiday breaks.  Self-catering or B&B, sleeps 4.   Naulakha, means 'jewel beyond price' in Hindi and is a name that Rudyard Kipling gave to his American home in Vermont.  His English home Bateman's is just a stone's throw away from us and open to visitors every day of the year.  We have wifi, walking maps, booklets of attractions nearby and a good recommendation list for cafes, restaurants and public houses.

The House has two floors and can be entered via the 'Quarterdeck', a large wooden balcony with ramp to the upper level, or by double doors on the ground floor.  The upper entrance hall leads through to the master 'Empire' double bedroom, with king size Harrods bed, and own balcony.  The second 'Just So' bedroom has a standard double bed.  Both bedrooms have views of the garden.  The comfortable 'Raj' bathroom with a large bath, Art Deco style mirrors and good lighting.  Easy access to the balconies, makes them an idea place to enjoy your meals.

On the ground floor a spacious 60 square metre living room has a large red leather sofa, wood burning stove and a beautiful rosewood grand piano.  It is in a surprisingly cosy 'glam-rustic' style.  At the opposite end of this open plan room is the kitchen, with a larder, gas cooker, fridge freezer, dishwasher, granite worktops.  At the centre of this wonderful space is a circular dining table with seating for 6.  The double doors open out onto a big paved patio and the garden beyond, another perfect place to savour breakfast, lunch and supper.  Throughout, there is original and unusual furniture along with objets d'art, which creates a novel and unique interior.  Interesting shaped windows add an attractive feature.  Every view overlooks a pretty field.

There is a swing, parking for 2 cars, surrounding fields to walk in, 1 including a pond, bird life and nature.

And a grand piano!
